💛 About Sarina & Her Family
Sarina Schieferstein is a wife, mom of four, and lifelong creative living and working right here in Modesto, CA. With children ranging from pre-teen to young adult, life in her household is always busy, full, and ever-changing.
Over the years, Sarina has worn many hats—from managing a retail portrait studio to working as a professional seamstress. Each experience has shaped her creativity, strong work ethic, and passion for helping other Modesto families capture their memories. In addition to running her family photography business, Sarina also supports families as a doula, an extension of the care-centered work she’s deeply passionate about.
What Inspired Her Business
Photography has been a constant part of Sarina’s life for more than 20 years. She began shooting film in 2003 and never looked back. Once she became a mom, her connection to photography grew even deeper—she experienced firsthand how fleeting childhood and family moments truly are.
Starting her own portrait studio in Modesto allowed Sarina to create meaningful family and kids photography while building a life that supports her own family—one rooted in connection, creativity, and presence.
A Day in the Life
No two days look the same for Sarina. Mornings often start with family responsibilities before shifting into portrait sessions, photo editing, client communication, photography lessons, and behind-the-scenes business work.
Some days are spent photographing Modesto families and children, while others focus on planning, creating, or offering hands-on support through her doula services. It’s a full schedule—but one she truly loves.
The Most Rewarding Part
For Sarina, the most rewarding part of her work is building meaningful relationships with her clients. She has the unique honor of watching babies and children grow right in front of her lens.
Many families return to her multiple times a year for family and kids photography sessions in Modesto, and those long-term connections are what make her work so special.
Balancing Motherhood & Entrepreneurship
Like many Modesto mompreneurs, Sarina says balance is always a work in progress. Some seasons require more focus on family, while others lean heavier into work.
Through it all, she’s learned to give herself grace, set boundaries, stay flexible, and—perhaps most importantly—let go of perfection.
Advice for Other Moms
Sarina’s advice is simple but powerful: start before you feel ready.
“You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin,” she shares. “Build something that supports your life and allows room for growth. Being a mom gives you skills that translate beautifully into entrepreneurship—trust that.”
How Their Family Spends Time Together
Sarina and her family cherish simple moments together—family dinners, conversations, laughter, and just being present.
With kids in different stages of life and living in different cities, everyday moments are especially meaningful. When they’re together, they love little day trips around Modesto, movie nights, or cozy dinners at home.
