Discover the Joy of Zumbini in the Central Valley

By Xochitl Loza March 6, 2026

Music, movement, and meaningful bonding for little ones and their caregivers

If you’ve ever wished for a fun way to connect with your little one while supporting their development, Zumbini might be exactly what you’re looking for! This joyful music-and-movement program is bringing families together across the Central Valley thanks to local instructor Melanie Snelling, a Modesto mom who turned her passion for child development into a meaningful community experience.

A Program Born from a Mom’s Search for Connection

Melanie Snelling is a local Modesto mom of two who discovered Zumbini shortly after having her daughter in 2021. Like many parents during that time, she was looking for opportunities where her child could socialize with other kids while doing something fun together.

However, many programs were still closed due to the pandemic.

That’s when she discovered Zumbini — and realized she could become an instructor herself.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Early Child Development and Special Education and experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Melanie felt the program perfectly aligned with her professional background and her life as a mom at home with young children.

She became certified in 2023 and began teaching that same year.

“Over the past three years it has been such a fun and rewarding journey,” Melanie shares. “I’m able to combine my experience and passion for working with children and families in the community.”

What Is Zumbini?

Zumbini is a music and movement program for children ages 0–5 and their caregivers that supports development through joyful play.

The program was created through a collaboration between Zumba, BabyFirst TV, and child development specialists to support early childhood development using music, movement, and hands-on activities.

Each 45-minute class is designed to keep little ones engaged through a variety of activities, including:

  • Singing songs together on the floor
  • Dancing and jumping
  • Playing musical instruments
  • Exploring scarves and ribbons for movement

Classes alternate between seated and active moments, helping children stay engaged while developing both fine and gross motor skills.

The program runs in six-week sessions, with songs and activities building over time so children can become familiar with the music and grow in confidence each week.

One unique element of Zumbini is its mixed-age learning environment, which allows younger and older children to interact and learn from each other while developing social skills.

Families can even purchase the music used in class to continue the fun at home and reinforce the learning experience.

How Zumbini Supports Early Childhood Development

Zumbini goes far beyond just singing and dancing — every activity is designed with child development in mind.

Children engage in:

  • Social development through group interaction
  • Emotional bonding with caregivers
  • Physical development through dancing, jumping, and movement
  • Cognitive growth through rhythm, music, and repetition

Kids explore a variety of instruments including:

  • Drums
  • Shakers
  • Finger cymbals
  • Bells
  • Rhythm sticks
  • Mini xylophones
  • Tambourines

Scarves and ribbons are also used to encourage creativity and support motor development.

According to Melanie, these combined experiences help build new neural pathways in the brain, supporting learning and development in multiple areas.

A Special Time for Bonding

One of the most meaningful aspects of Zumbini is the opportunity it creates for intentional bonding between caregiver and child.

In a busy world filled with distractions, the class offers 45 minutes each week dedicated solely to connection and play.

Parents and caregivers get to laugh, sing, move, and watch their children learn and grow right alongside them.

Melanie says she understands the impact of this time firsthand.

“I’ve had the privilege of bringing my own children to my classes, so I’ve experienced that bonding as a mom too,” she says. “I cherish these years together and feel honored to bring this experience to other families in our community.”

A Macaroni KID Parent Experience:
When my son was just a few months old, we took Zumbini and we LOVED it! He was so tiny — mom heart melting. I have a photo of us from that time that I’ll always cherish. I recommend this class 100% to other parents looking for a fun, interactive way to connect with their little ones.

Building Community Through Music

For Melanie, the best part of teaching Zumbini isn’t just the music — it’s the relationships.

Her classes bring together families from across the region and create a welcoming space where friendships form naturally.

“My favorite part is meeting families in the community and watching relationships grow between the children and their families,” she says. “It’s such an honor to bring everyone together in a space where kids can learn from one another and families can connect.”
