Bike N’ Trike Rolls Back Into Modesto This May
MODESTO, CA – Families across the Central Valley are dusting off their helmets and pumping up their tires because Modesto Children’s Museum’s annual Bike N’ Trike event, presented by Sutter Health, is getting ready to roll through Modesto on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
A third outing of the annual family tradition organized by the Modesto Children’s Museum, this morning-long event is one that’s hard to miss. Hundreds of riders gather at “MoChiMu” in downtown Modesto—many donning colorful, streaming “balloon backpacks” assembled like balloon porcupine spines—and ride their way 2.2 miles through downtown, to the Virginia Corridor Trail, and onto Roosevelt Park. There, a free “fun festival” of sponsors, vendors, and activities led by the staff of the Modesto Children’s Museum continues through the morning.
“There is nothing quite like Bike N’ Trike,” says Katie Trausch, the museum’s interim CEO. “This is a day all about color and joy and activity! There are no screens; no apps; just families riding, building, splashing, and exploring together.”
While bikes are the most common, it’s not unusual to see families decking out their tricycles, tandem bikes, scooters, skates, and other wheeled contraptions for the day. Says the museum’s Director of Education & Experience, Brian Krosnick, “Bike N’ Trike really is an embodiment of this community’s creativity and curiosity, and it’s really transformational to see downtown Modesto and Roosevelt Park as the headquarters for all families to grow together through play.”
Registration for the morning ride is available on the museum’s website at $15 per person, supporting the non-profit children’s museum and its access programs (which offer significantly reduced-price admission to economically disadvantaged families). The festival at the ride’s end—active from about 9 AM to noon—is free and open to the public, supported by a group of local sponsors led by Sutter Health.
And yes, “MoChiMu” is also open for regular visits that day, welcoming its usual guests, Member families, and out-of-towners to an interactive Water Lab, a kid-sized grocery store, a two-story Adventure Climber, and (for a limited time “DINO SPRING” event) a Dinosaur Dig Pit.
Bike N’ Trike continues the organization's push to be present in the community, in classrooms, and in conversations around childhood in the Central Valley. “And,” Trausch adds, “it’s our team’s favorite day of the year.”
