At Macaroni KID Modesto, we love celebrating local moms who are making a difference in our community. This month, we're excited to introduce you to Stormy, owner and operator of Diamond Pest Control, devoted mom of two, and a passionate business owner who is helping local families feel comfortable and confident in their homes.
Meet Stormy
Stormy is a lifelong Modesto-area resident and proud mom to two amazing boys, ages 17 and 13. After spending some time away, she returned to Modesto 13 years ago and has been raising her family here ever since.
Family is at the heart of everything she does. When she's not helping customers with their pest control needs, you'll find her enjoying game nights with her boys, taking family bike rides, hiking local trails, walking their two dogs, or planning trips to the mountains and beach. She also loves cooking and cherishes the moments spent gathered around the table with the people she loves most.
Building a Business with Heart
Although Diamond Pest Control officially launched on March 24, 2024, the inspiration behind the business started long before then.
After encouragement from others to start her own company, Stormy initially hesitated, unsure if she could run a business. But one thing kept standing out to her: customers who felt unheard.
"I kept meeting customers who felt rushed, overlooked, or treated like just another account number," Stormy shares.
She knew there had to be a better way.
That's why she built Diamond Pest Control on a foundation of honesty, communication, and genuine customer care. Her goal is simple: listen to customers, take their concerns seriously, explain services clearly, and never recommend treatments that aren't truly needed.
For Stormy, pest control isn't just about eliminating pests—it's about helping families feel safe and comfortable in their homes.
Balancing Business and Motherhood
As a solo owner-operator, Stormy handles every aspect of her business herself—from answering phones and scheduling appointments to performing services and supporting customers.
While balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship can be challenging, she appreciates that her teenage boys get to witness the journey firsthand.
"They see the long days, the hard work, the challenges, and the successes," she says. "More importantly, they see that setbacks don't define you."
Stormy hopes she's teaching her sons the value of integrity, perseverance, and having the courage to take risks when you believe in something.
The Most Rewarding Part
For Stormy, the most rewarding moments come from hearing directly from customers.
Whether she's solving a pest issue that's been causing stress or simply making someone feel heard and respected, knowing she's made a positive impact means everything.
"Helping someone feel more comfortable in their home is incredibly rewarding and reminds me why I started this business in the first place."
Overcoming Challenges
Like many entrepreneurs, Stormy discovered that running a business involves much more than providing a great service.
Coming from the technical side of pest control, she felt confident helping customers solve problems. Learning marketing, advertising, and business growth, however, required a whole new skill set.
What keeps her moving forward is remembering her purpose.
"Every challenge has been an opportunity to learn something new. Growth happens outside of our comfort zones. If I waited until I knew everything, I never would have started."
Advice for Other Moms
Stormy's advice to moms considering starting a business of their own is simple but powerful:
Believe in yourself before anyone else does.
"There will always be reasons to wait. There will always be uncertainties and risks. If you have a dream, take the first step. You can learn along the way."
She encourages moms to embrace courage, trust themselves, and remember that growth often comes from stepping into the unknown.
Why She Loves Modesto
When asked what she loves most about our community, Stormy's answer was immediate: the people.
"This community has been home for most of my life, and it's where I've raised my family."
Her family enjoys attending local church, volunteering when they can, and participating in community events throughout the year. She especially loves the downtown parades and gatherings that bring neighbors together.
"There's something special about living and working in a community where relationships matter and neighbors still support one another."
Family Time Is the Best Time
When life slows down, Stormy's family enjoys keeping things simple.
They spend time playing games, riding bikes, hiking, walking their dogs, and exploring California's beautiful mountains and beaches.
Her perfect day? Cooking a great meal, gathering everyone around the table, sharing laughs, and ending the evening with a board game.
"Those are the moments that remind me what all the hard work is for."
